Thank You from the Alumni Office!

While thinking about what topic to discuss in this column, I took a quick survey of the last eight months and have to say, the overriding theme of my short time in Alumni Relations is Siena Blessings. These blessings come in the form of SHU alums who want to get involved, give back and stay connected.

Frequently, I also have the honor of visits and calls from current and former employees who want to assist with projects, share their insight and reflect back while moving Siena forward. How is your connection to Siena? If you are looking to strengthen your ties, there are several means of doing so:

One way to connect with SHU is our SaintsConnect online mentoring platform. My office collaborated with Siena Career Services to create an online platform connecting our current students with our alumni base. Students can seek out alumni who work in the field they aspire to join and ask questions, arrange for a career chat, or seek resume advice from alums who have volunteered to share this kind of support. As of today, 498 alumni have created a profile on our site to assist our students. If you would like to join, please do so here: https://sienaheights.wisr.io/signup.

Hello Alumni & Friends

It has been a whirlwind few months for me as I settle in to my new role as Director of Alumni Relations at Siena Heights University. I have been with the University for over six years, spending my first five in Advancement and the last year and a half in campus events. I have been counting my blessings since being selected to this role and know I have big shoes to fill.

I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and recently (2015) walked across the commencement stage with my husband of 25 years as we graduated together from Siena with our master’s degrees in Organizational Leadership. Jim has been coaching football here at SHU since it was added in 2011. We have three children, two of whom are current students here at Siena, so we have a lot of #SaintsPride.

Each day I feel fortunate to speak with alums who reach out to my new office.  Sometimes it is just to change their address in the database. Sometimes it is to inquire about a former classmate they hope to contact. Sometimes it is to find out more about the upcoming alumni trip to Italy in 2019. Whatever the call is for, I am happy to pick up and listen.  Listening to your stories is probably the best part of my job.  I love to hear what Siena
means to you. I know it means a lot to me as well.

Thankful for so Many Things

As I reflect on my time here at Siena Heights and my last day as the Director of Alumni Relations, I am thankful. I am thankful for many things; amazing colleagues, my Siena education, opportunities for growth and learning, alumni I have had the privilege to serve, students I have met, experiences that have taught me so much, and lessons that I will carry with me everywhere I go. Most of all I am thankful for the friendships I have made and the kindness that has been shown by so many. As graduates and friends of Siena, I am confident that
you can relate to my experience.

I was privileged to be a member of the first cohort of Torchbearers, as part of the Heritage Project. Along with my fellow torchbearers, I explored and discovered so much about The Adrian Dominican Sisters and Siena’s history. This was an experience that I will carry with me down every path in my life’s journey. My hope is that everyone feels as lucky and as accomplished as I do, to have had an education with the influence of Adrian Dominican traditions.

Homecoming 2017 is just around the corner. Plan to come to campus October 13-15. Whether you are interested in the Arts, Academics, Athletics, or looking to connect with old friends, there is sure to be something of interest.
