Rice Award Winner Erin Zerbe Mixes Style with Substance

On campus, she is simply known as “Z.”

And that is just fine with Siena Heights University Assistant Professor of Art Erin Zerbe.

“It’s one of those nicknames that evolved organically and became what it is,” she said. “It’s kind of built a little bit of a persona around it. I like that. It’s fun. It allows me to come in and get right into work mode. When I am at work, I am ‘Z.’”

She may show up to class in a super-
hero costume to co-teach an animation and creative writing course on comic books. Or she may use a wild array of hair color and fashion to make a state-
ment. However, despite establishing her unique persona, her efforts in the class-
room are what endeared her to her students as the recipient of the 2016 Eileen Rice Award for Outstanding Teaching.

SHU Student-Athletes Excel in the Classroom

Siena Heights student-athletes earned an aggregate grade point average of 3.11 for the 2016 winter semester.
Leading the way was the women’s golf team with a 3.80 aggregate GPA. A total of 233 female student-athletes earned an aggregate GPA of 3.39.
A total of 353 male student-athletes earned an aggregate GPA of 2.92.

ALSO: The Saints softball team (above) took the top spot in the NAIA with a 3.72 team grade point average, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. In all divisions, Siena Heights was topped only by NCAA Division III Newbury (N.C.) College (3.77) and NCAA Division II Upper Iowa (3.764) for the overall collegiate high.

The Saints also had a collegiate-high 26 student-athletes honored as NFCA Scholar-Athletes for 2015-16. Saints honored were Kelsie Abbott, Lexi Agers, Ashley Best, Lauren Best, Hannah Bleikamp, Kayla Boland, Julie Bonk, Channing Brzys, Kelsey Cherry, Phoebe Cross, Paide Dean, Lesley Ducat, Hailey Fox, Ashley Helmink, Katie Hybl, Megan Jones, Tiffany Jones, Kelsey Lampkowski, Amy Nordstrom, Lindsay Postal, Jessica Sierak, Meghan Spagnoli, Stephanie Tylicki, Sydney Vernier, Kyndle Wolfinger and Hannah Yadon.

SHU Athletics Unveils New Bus Wrap

Siena Heights University Athletics unveiled its newly designed bus wrap at a special ceremony Jan. 13, 2016 in the stadium parking lot. SHU President Sister Peg Albert officially introduced the new design that will represent the Saints on the road. Watch the bus being created in this 30 second video!

Hall of Fame Class Chosen

SHU’s 17th Athletic Hall of Fame class was announced. The class is composed of Perry Gilbert (men’s basketball), Adam Hartle (track and field), Jameel Jones (track and field), Stephanie Schaffron Casida (women’s soccer) and the 1980-81 men’s basketball team. The inductees will be honored during Homecoming Weekend Oct. 6-8, 2016.
