SHU Top 10 Student-Athletes of the Decade

Reflections took a look back on the past 10 years and compiled the Top 10 student-athletes during that time. A very tough task indeed, but below are final choices. And make sure to check out the very impressive honorable mention list.

1. Doug Dawson—men’s soccer, men’s track and field:

Dawson was a dominant performer in two sports: an all-conference standout in soccer and a national champion and school record-holder on the track (400 meter run). He also was a standout in the classroom, earning multiple all-academic honors.

2. Richard DePalma—men’s track and field:

DePalma won a pole vault national title to lead the Saints to a fourth place finish at the NAIA Indoor Championships in 2016. He placed first with an effort of 16 feet, 8.75 inches, and the multiple All-American is the school record-holder in the event.

3. Cory Lehman—baseball, men’s basketball:

A two-sport standout who was the WHAC Player of the Year in baseball as a senior shortstop. During his senior year, he led the Saints to WHAC Tournament title and an appearance in the NAIA Tournament and was named an honorable mention NAIA All-American and Gold Glove recipient. Finished with a career .351 batting average, second best in program history.

4. Ryan Mailloux—men’s lacrosse:

A first team Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II All-American as a goalkeeper, Mailloux led the Saints to their first trip to the MCLA national tournament in 2015. He had a 13-3 record as Siena Heights finished sixth in the final national poll.

5. Haley Mancini—women’s soccer:

A dominant goalkeeper for the Saints, she earned third team NAIA All-American honors in 2010. She holds school records for career wins (47) and saves (371), and was the WHAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Her 35 1/2 career shutouts ranks third in the Siena record book.

6. Katie O’Hotzke—softball:

O’Hotzke was a standout as both a pitcher and a hitter in earning multiple conference and NAIA honors during her career.

7. Darius Price—football:

Price was one of the top players in the NAIA as a senior. The cornerback was a first team NAIA All-American in 2017 and earned an invitation to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie camp. He also was on the roster of the Salt Lake City member of the Alliance of American Football.

8. Kasey Renshaw—women’s track and field:

A dominant thrower for the Saints, Renshaw won a national title in the weight throw and was named the Outstanding Performer at the NAIA Indoor Championships in 2016. Leading the Saints to a fourth place finish, Renshaw set an NAIA record by winning the weight throw in 69 feet, 6.5 inches, easily beat the field. She was also an All-American in the shot put.

9. Maddie Soave—dance:

Soave was a three-time NAIA All-American on the Saints’ dance team that finished eighth in the final team national rankings in 2015. She was a four-year member of the program, including on the inaugural squad in 2012.

10. April Watson—women’s basketball:

The first Saint to earn first team NAIA All-American honors, the 6-foot-3-inch Watson averaged 19.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in 2016-17. She also became the first Siena Heights women’s player to play professionally.
